Daily Taizé prayer: a spiritual practice for Advent
Since the COVID outbreak in 2020, the Open and Affirming Coalition has offered a daily contemplative service of Morning Prayer with Taizé chant, a scripture reading, intercessory prayer and silence at 9 am EST Monday through Friday. Our goal was to provide pastors and lay leaders isolated by COVID restrictions an opportunity to pray together in community through a beautiful liturgy based on ancient models of Christian daily prayer.
Even after the pandemic subsided, this service proved to be popular and continues to offer an opportunity for contemplative prayer at the beginning of the day. Our community has grown and now includes members of several Christian churches, including the UCC. In the past two years we’ve also welcomed a community of queer Christians in Uganda, most of whom are living in hiding or in exile. Their participation has deepened our awareness of their struggles, and they’ve found in our prayer community the support they need to keep hope alive during a time of danger.
We invite you to join this community as a spiritual practice this Advent and Christmas. Our registration page will provide the link to our Zoom meeting and password. We hope we’ll see you!
